Privileges
FTH users can be granted different privilege levels allowing
network administrators to control access as read-only, read-download,
read-download-upload and full admin. Users can be added to groups
and groups assigned to categories.
Configuration
FTP is burdened with complexities and requires ongoing IT
systems administration. FTH allows non-technical people to
set-up and manage categories, users and permissions. No operating
system knowledge is required.
Organized file system
With FTH you save files that logically belong together under
the same group and find groups of files quickly by browsing
categories. In FTP, users have to know the folder structure
and cannot easily navigate around to store or retrieve files.
Accountability
FTH records all transactions and provides an online report
interface so that users with administrative privileges can
view system file transaction usage and user interaction. The
same transaction records can be used to generate billing for
FTH usage. FTH provides email confirmations for downloads
effectively letting a user of the FTH system know when another
user has downloaded a file.
Performance
Both http and FTP ultimately use the TCP protocol, which is
the primary determinant of transfer performance. The FTH calculates
transfer time of files over typical network connections and
displays these numbers with the file so users can estimate
their retrieval time from the FTH dependent on their known
network connection speed.
Searching
When files are uploaded into FTH, they are filed into categories.
Additional information about the file such as install notes,
configuration instructions, usage rules, pricing, inventory
etc. can easily be added. Users that can view the saved files
have more information about the file content and usage. Users
also get a proxy image of the file that is automatically generated
when uploaded. Keywords can be added to quickly find a group
of files and advanced searches can be performed to narrow
results.
